Faulkes Project receives government approval
Addressing the decline in interest and take-up in science and maths is of concern to many people in education, industry and also at the government level. Last week Dr Faulkes, the man behind the telescope project, received a letter from the Prime Minister Tony Blair, personally congratulating him on the founding the project.
"Getting young people excited by science is of vital importance to the future of our country" Blair says. A successful and world leading economy needs top mathematicians, scientists and engineers to keep advancing the cutting-edge technologies. The Faulkes Telescope Project aims to inspire a new generation which will take these leading roles.
Blair goes on to say that the opportunities created by the project, "will inspire young people to become the next generations of scientists."
