Getting started
Hello
I'm confused about getting started.
I've applied (I thought) on a two page web form for an account for me and my school to use the Faulkes Telescope and support material.
I have received 2 e-mails today
1) Faulkes Telescope Account, giving me an Account Number, Username and password
2) Account details for ..... at Faulkes Telescope Project giving me the same username but a different password
With these I can log into the support material pages, but not into the (blue) telescope web page, which needs a school ID (my school name used during registration does not permit me to log in).
When I have got to grips with this as a teacher, how would it work with a group of pupils either as a group in a classroom/ computer room or if they want to work and follow up observations individually at home?
- would they all log in on a "school" account
- would they use "my" accounts
- do they need individual accounts /logins?
Thanks in anticipation of your help

Thanks for the reply.
Is it possible for teacher colleagues to have their own log-ins under our school account (which as you point out has my name) so that they can access to the introductory educational resources?
If so, how do we do set up their accounts?
Also (if this can be answered in this forum), we have booked our initial 30min session as a test. I have requested more time to us for work with pupils.
When will we hear if we have been granted this?
Also, I have read somewhere in the website that teacher accounts have a 90 min allowance. Is that correct and can that time be booked for work outside the times offered to schools (e.g. weekends, school holidays)?
Regards
Peter
Hi Peter
If you only want teachers to access the introductionary education resources, you need to send us their e-mail addresses then we can set them up accounts, but if they want to access the RTI they will need to set up individual telescope accounts. As many teacher as you want at the school can have Telescope Accounts.
You will not be issued with more time until your Validation time (30 mins initial credit) is used and you had a successful session. If the session is weathered out or the telescope is down for technical problems you need to reapply for the 30 mins validation time.
When you have had a successful validation session your account will be credited with 90 mins of time. This time can be used to book any available session on either telescope. We do not often have session at weekends or during school holidays as the telescope is for UK School use so most of our time is allocated during the hours of 09:00 and 16:00 during term time.
Kind regards
Alison
Hi Peter,
The first email with your Faulkes Telescope account details will allow you to log into the telescope control (the blue telescope page) - the school ID it asks for is the username given in your email (usually your name).
The second account details are to log into the resources portal at resources.faulkes-telescope.com. The majority of resources on here you can access and download without logging into the site, but if you want to go through the introductory training course on there then you will need to log into that course.
With regards to student access, this depends on whether your students will be just looking at the data that has been taken or whether you want them to use the telescopes themselves. Anyone can access the data archive and download anyone elses data, from: http://lcogt.net/en/search/archive
If you want the students to use the telescopes themselves, you can either give them your account username and password, or if you'd rather they didn't have access to your account, we can set up another account here (a "school" account), but it would only have 30 minutes in it at a time. In your teacher account you can have 90 minutes in there at any one time.
I hope this helps - let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks
Sarah
