NGC6302 :The Bug Nebula

This nebula is exceptionally hot with an estimated surface temperature of 250,000 degrees C. It shines brightly in ultraviolet light but is hidden from direct view by dense dust clouds.

The nebula was caused by a dying star ending in the dramatic display in the form of a supernova. Many complex molecules have been detected in this cosmic shroud.

This image was taken in red, green, blue and hydrogen-alpha.
