Images of the Week

This week we have two Images of the Week. The first is M82, the Cigar Galaxy. This image is a colour composite of three images (red, green and blue) taken by Pen Y Dre High School.

This galaxies core seems to have suffered dramatically from a collision with it's neighbour M81 and is a very strong source of radio emissions; the strongest in the constellation Ursa Major.

To find out how to make your own colour images from the raw data from the telescope click here.

Our second Image of the Week is an animation of asteroid 2005 WD2 made my King's School Canterbury from a series of 3 images. The asteroid can be clearly seen in the centre of the image moving against the starry background.
