Sarah Roberts on S4C (Channel 4 Wales)

Sarah Roberts (Faulkes Telescope Operations Manager) recently appeared on Welsh TV to talk about the Faulkes Telescope Project and the role of women in Astronomy today. She appeared on the Welsh language program, Wedi 3, which broadcasts to the whole of Wales. After discussing why more and more women are teaching astronomy nowadays, Sarah went on to describe the Faulkes Telescope Project and her role in it. Elinor Jones, the presenter thought that with such a project the interest of young children could be caught early-on, encouraging more pupils to consider studying subjects such as Physics, Technology and Engineering at a higher level after leaving school.

The interview was concluded with Sarah being asked one of the bigger questions in Astronomy - what was the Star of Bethlehem? No-one knows for sure what it was, but Sarah gave 3 possibilities - a comet, a supernova or, the most popular explanation, a planetary conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn. If this last scenario is correct however, then that puts the birth of Jesus in August or September!
