Shropshire Star publishes school observation
Shrewsbury School, Abraham Darby and Meole Brace are 3 schools taking part in the Development phase of the Faulkes Telescope Project. They are amongst the first people to use Faulkes Telescope North in Hawaii and have already taken some amazing images.
The following is a scan of an article that appeared in the Shropshire Star showing a beautiful image of the Ring Nebula (M57) taken by Shrewsbury School. The material thrown off by the dying star, now a planet sized white dwarf, is clearly seen. Initially the star would have been quite similar to our own Sun, showing us the fate of our star in around 5 billion years time. The Ring Nebula lies about 2000 light years away in the constellation of Lyra and measures 1 light year across!
