Spot the Supernova!

A newly exploded star, or supernova, has recently been discovered in the Whirlpool Galaxy, M51 and Faulkes Telescope users have been quick to image this exciting event.

The images below, both taken with FTN show M51 before and after the supernova went off. Can you spot the supernova at the left of the galaxy?

You can find out more about supernovae, and how you can measure their lightcurves (a plot of how its brightness changes with time), by looking at our resources site here.
