FT North Russian User Publishes Paper
One of the Faulkes Telescope Project's Russian users has recently been successful in publishing a paper in the esteemed journal, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
The author, Maxim Khovritchev, is based at the Central Astronomical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Pulkovo, near St. Petersburg in Russia.
His work is entitled 'Astrometric observations of the Uranian satellites with the Faulkes Telescope North in 2007 September', and complements work done by members of the FT Team, along with collaborators at the Armagh Observatory and LCOGT.
His paper details the accurate positions (known as astrometry) of the Uranian moons during a recent period when Uranus and its moons were aligned in such a way as to eclipse and occult each other as seen from Earth. This only occurs once every 42 years (half the orbital period of Uranus around the Sun) so many researchers have been involved in collecting data in recent months.
The paper appeared in the online section of MNRAS on February 10.
