FTN on an iPhone!

Danny Duggan recently found a new combination of small and large technologies ......

"So there I was, standing in the middle of a college library, with no available computers and an observing session on Faulkes Telescope North in 10 minutes. With no time to get to another computer room, I was coming to terms with the possibility of missing my session. After various attempts to bribe and coax people off their computers, I had given up. So I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket to send a very sympathetic email to the FT Team.

Then it hit me... my iPhone... of course!

With literally seconds to spare I launched the Safari web browser, punched in the Faulkes Telescope website address, and logged in to find the session time happily ticking away.

Controlling a 2 metre telescope, roughly the size of two double-decker busses, is rather interesting from a device no larger than your own hand. Nevertheless, size clearly doesn’t matter as it worked flawlessly. I even got to watch the telescope slewing in real time.

So I settled myself into a corner, and an hour later, I went to lunch rather chuffed."
