Request for Observations : Another Outburst From the Direction of the Eagle
The FT team is once more asking its users to help collect data for its research into X-ray Binaries (XRBs).
A system, known as Aquila X-1, consisting of a neutron star and a
'normal' K or M class dwarf star, has become brighter by around 1
magnitude at optical wavelengths.
Last September, we were able to collect data on this system to
contribute to a long-term monitoring program that we are running on
several XRBs.
Our initial request contains much information about Aquila X-1 and can be read here, along with the resulting Astronomers Telegram.
We would ask users to image the system in z and y bands at 100 s
exposures. Presently, the system is visible for much of the night from
both FT North and FT South, however, only FT North has the required
filters.
