West Monmouth School

The Year 11 GCSE group from West Monmouth School took part in the Jodrell Bank Observing Day called "Seeing the Invisible".

During their half an hour session they imaged M1, the Crab Nebula and a galaxy, NGC 891. The pupils involved were Helen Jones, Jessica Cornish, Russell Jones and Anthony Beard.

They also tried to take an image of M42 but missed the minus sign out of the Declination field. The class booked another session for later in the day to try again.

The astronomy club members Ieuan Winstone, Jade Sallis and Rowena Mayo then took images of M42 in colour and Hydrogen-Alpha. As well as MG0414+0534, a gravitational lens object and a quasar, NGC 1275.

Images were then processed by the GCSE astronomy class and Ieuan Winstone.
